Mrs. Jennifer Douglas, BSD Assistant Superintendent, talks about the literacy events taking place in classrooms, across the state of Arkansas, and at home.

  • March "Reading Madness"

    • "Read Across America", February 27 - March 3

    • "If All Arkansas Read the Same Book", March 6 - April 1

    • A competition across the state will have students read, "J.D. and the Great Barber Battle" by J. Dillard.

      • There will be activities that go along with the storyline, which can be done at school and at home

      • Partnered with EAST students who will record reading the book

    • 2nd Annual Scavenger Hunt, March 6 - April 3

      • Passports will be sent home with students, Kindergarten through 5th Grade -- if your child doesn't receive one, the passports will be available in your child's campus office.

      • 5 locations throughout the city, where students will figure out riddles and receive stickers.

      • Once the passport is completed, the student can turn it in to be entered into a drawing for a Kindle -- the drawing will take place on April 3rd

    • Reading on the River, April 1

      • At Riverside Park from 10 am to 12 pm

      • Come to enjoy reading and fun activities!
