Rod Dixon-Smith, an 84-year-old former runner, now volunteers at the Mitchelton parkrun near Brisbane, cheering runners at the halfway mark. He started through his brother Derek, who now lives in residential care with Alzheimers. Rod is known as the heart of the halfway mark, bringing energy to the event week after week. He grew up running through the hills with Derek and even trained under Percy Cerutty. Rod cherishes the parkrun vibe and stays connected to the sport after more than sixty years.
