Iron Man 3

Opening
Nice bass and a laser shot from right rear

5:00 Christmas tree ********
In Tony’s lab
Dashing thru the snow as Tony armors up

8:00 Turn on The TV
Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin
Horrible HDR and resolution
Fun example of how good displays have become

14:40 Human Brain **********
Pepper and Killian stand on table inside his virtual brain
HDR is practically 3D
Also like standing inside a Christmas tree

25:45 Help Me!
Human Bomb explodes
Explosion is nice, not as big of a sound as I would have liked but I really liked the rumble of the explosion rolling off behind you.
Then a really deep bass note as they transition into another Mandarin message

29:45 Vroom
Tony takes off from press conference and his Audi A8 roars from front center to right rear

29:50 Bomb Recreation *********
Fantastic example of HDR and special effects
The Holographic recreation of the explosion looks pretty much 3D
Absolutely LOVED THIS SCENE. watched it over and over to check out all the different details
Tool chests
His feet on the floor as he walked thru the holograms

34:20 Attack *********
Till 39:40
Lots of discrete sounds around the room
Great pans
Nice bass but it doesn’t have the rumble I would have liked

44:20 Meeting the Mechanic
Listen to all the creeping sounds and winds in all the surrounding speakers.
Lots of subtle ambient sounds that are actually pretty discrete

48:35 What are we Waiting For
Really nice deep bass rumble the you can feel up thru your seat as the Mandarin says “Well then What are waiting for”

1:14:47 Searching
Room shacking bass as Tony searches the Lair for the Mandarin

1:27:20 Where’s the rest
More discrete sounds and nice thumping bass as Tony battles while waiting for the rest of his suit

1:36:00  Barrel of Monkeys
Score
Bass
Screaming
All discrete and at times spinning and panning
Just a fun creative use of sound to ramp a scene

1:40:42 Stairs
Tony and Rody run up some stairs off the left of the screen as the shot pans slightly towards the left so the sound of their foot steps pans appropriately from right front to right rear

 1:42:05 Merry Christmas Buddy
All the iron man suits show up and it’s glorious
The HDR as Rody and Tony look at them as bright lights in the night sky is really nice
Then the scene shifts to looking at Tony and Rody from w/ the Ironman behind so we get the sound in the rear of the room as they pass over us
Then as they assemble around the are they assemble around your room too.
Great scene to explore for fun sound and great HDR the blue night sky and all the warm lights and the reds and yellows from the dock.
Blue steel and yellow railing
Great Bass in the explosions

1:51:50 Mark 42
Really cool explosion but I really liked the twisting metal sounds spread out around the room as the dock twists and falls apart

1:55:10 Clean Slate Protocol
  • HDR
    • Obviously the bright fire against the night sky
    • But check out the detail in the greys of smoke
  • BASS
    • Real nice punch like real fireworks
    • Some even are placed correctly on the screen too
  • SCORE
    • Gradually ramps up in volume setting a sonic undertone
    • While the explosions and “fireworks” of the suits are still very distinct
