David Robinson had a successful career in the travel industry for more than 30 years from being the driving force behind a flight specialist in the early 90’s, taking it from start-up to major player with over £100m turnover in just a few years. He was involved in the acquisition process of the business to Thomas Cook Plc and ultimately was a Board Director of Thomas Cook Scheduled Businesses responsible for the airline, hotel and ground product portfolio of over £500m.
After taking a short break he looked at using his skills for more charitable purposes.
Initially, taking a role as a Trustee David moved, taking the role as Chief Executive of a children’s hospice which needed a thorough review of the culture, values and strategy. When he took over the reins the charity held a ‘requires improvement’ rating from the regulator. Using his skills for business, strategic planning, culture and values he transformed the charity attaining a rating of ‘Outstanding’ within two years with the regular citing the significant shift in culture, values and governance as overwhelming and inspiring.
He has also been an active member of several advisory councils in the charity sector with the most significant being Together for Short Lives, a nationally recognised organisation.
David stepped down from the CEO role at the end of last year and is now providing consultancy in business, strategy, culture and values to both the commercial and charity sector.
