Former Boston Teacher John Magee Gavin Sentenced for Online Predation
John Magee Gavin, a former Boston Public Schools teacher, has been sentenced to ten years in prison for possessing child sexual abuse material and engaging in sexual conversations with at least twenty underage girls worldwide. He also faces five years of supervised release. Gavin, who worked at Josiah Quincy Upper School and held other roles in Brookline schools, pleaded guilty to federal charges of coercing and enticing a minor, plus receipt and possession of child pornography. Authorities linked him to a Discord account used to contact girls aged twelve to seventeen across the US, UK, and Canada, where he admitted being a teacher and solicited explicit photos from them. He was arrested in February and initially faced local charges before the federal case took over.
