Boston Marathon runners in Natick pass historical landmarks, including the birthplace of Henry Wilson, an abolitionist who rose from shoemaker to U.S. senator and vice president. John Speen, a Nipmuc man, founded Natick in 1651, and his descendants still reside there. Runners hug Fiske Pond, formed for Bostons drinking supply, and pass the old Harwood factory, where the modern baseball was invented in the 1850s.
