Show Notes
British spy novelist Len Deighton, known for his witty, working-class heroes and taut tales of Cold War espionage, passed away at age ninety-seven. His breakout hit, The Ipcress File, emerged in 1962, offering a refreshing contrast to the posh agents of Ian Fleming and John le Carre. Deightons diverse career included writing over twenty spy thrillers, non-fiction books, cookbooks, and screenplays. Despite his success, he remained private, living across Europe and California, and marrying twice with two sons.
