Show Notes
Kozo Toyota, a Tokyo-based flutist, leads the band OJizo, blending traditional Irish tunes with modern rhythms. The group, formed 15 years ago, is on a New England tour, including a show at Club Passim on March 13th. Toyotas passion for Irish music began at Tokyo Disneyland and was further fueled by Dervishs CD. OJizos unique sound, a mix of acoustic Celtic and electronic elements, has earned them the label Japanese Celtic music. The band draws inspiration from Dervish, Solas, and Lunasa. Japans Celtic scene, which boomed in the nineties, is thriving today, with sessions packed with players and monthly ceilidh dances. Toyota is excited for his first Boston visit, supported by local musicians Matt and Shannon Heaton.
