Meet Halli, Braintrees First Comfort Dog: A New Era of Mental Health Support for First Responders

Halli, a fourteen-month-old yellow lab, is set to become the first comfort dog for the Braintree Fire Department in Massachusetts. Named after a key firefighting tool, Halli aims to support mental health for first responders facing high stress. The idea was conceived by firefighter Andrew Leneweaver, a Navy veteran with over twenty years on the job. Once certified, Halli will head to traumatic calls and big events, all at no cost. Shell also visit schools to help students and staff during tough times. Public donations and town backing covered her costs, with plans to raise more funds to offer comfort dogs to other departments. Halli is currently finishing basic puppy training before full certification and will soon be sworn in as an official Braintree firefighter.
