Show Notes

Federal prosecutors in Boston are pursuing over $327,000 in Tether cryptocurrency, linked to a romance scam that targeted a Massachusetts resident. The scam began in fall 2024 when a fake profile, Linda Brown, befriended the victim on a dating app. After gaining trust, the scammer proposed a cryptocurrency investment deal. The victim transferred funds, but struggled to withdraw fake profits, revealing the scam. The money was moved through various wallets and converted to Tether to conceal tracks. Investigators traced the funds to seized unhosted digital wallets in August 2025. This civil forfeiture action aims to recover assets involved in money laundering. If approved, the funds could return to the victim. Victims of romance or crypto scams are urged to report details to [email protected].
