Available on Amazon worldwide. Leading on from the post-Victorian aesthetic philosophies of Oscar Wilde and the irreverent cerebral proto-conceptualism of Marcel Duchamp, Pop Art as popularised by Andy Warhol and his contemporaries democratised visual art in the post-war clean up of the mid-twentieth century. Bob Dylan and The Beatles plucked this diaphanous baton from the ether and in time handed over to the likes of Roxy Music and Talking Heads as the music industry balkanised into easily marketable genres; anything not so easily categorised could tend to become known as Art Rock. States of Independence traces the spirit connecting a myriad different artists, whether on 'independent' record labels or not, highlighting their most memorable or culturally impactful moments and place in the contemporary cultural context.
