Smashing Modern Idols. Pointing People Back to Jesus.

As a child, I was pretty convinced I had the Bible and Christianity all figured out. I knew all the answers, was obsessed with apologetics and creationism—so much so that I even started my own nonprofit—and I loved telling people they were wrong. My faith was mostly in my head, where a sense of certainty tied me to Jesus more than love.

I wanted to be the Christian version of everything (Christian lawyer, Christian politician, etc.). But eventually, I settled on becoming a Bible major so I could teach the correct view of Scripture to other Christians who would go out and inhabit the other fields. But as I pursued a Bachelor's in Biblical Studies and later a Master of Theological Studies (at a conservative Christian school, mind you), I quickly realized how little I actually knew.

I started encountering the Bible in a whole new way—learning to ask it questions on its own terms, rather than trying to force it to answer the modern issues I wished it would. That shift opened my eyes to a new vision of faith: one centered on Jesus, not on bashing people over the head with a Bible.
