El caudillo militar más carismático del siglo XX. Acompaño a Paz Estenssoro en su retorno a Bolivia en 1952. Organizó el golpe de 1964 que acabó en la Revolución Nacional. Promulgó la constitución de 1967 y derrotó a la guerrilla del Che. Muerto en 1969 en un accidente de helicóptero.
