Het Amerikaanse leger heeft het alarmniveau van verschillende militaire bases in Europa verhoogd naar het op een na hoogste niveau 'Charlie’. Dat niveau wordt ingesteld wanneer 'een incident plaatsvindt of inlichtingen worden ontvangen waaruit blijkt dat een of andere vorm van terroristische actie of gerichte aanvallen op personeel of faciliteiten waarschijnlijk is'. Oud-directeur van de militaire inlichtingendienst MIVD Pieter Cobelens zegt er honderd procent van overtuigd te zijn dat Nederlandse inlichtingendiensten weten waarom Charlie is afgekondigd.
