De Syrische machthebbers hebben een 'onafhankelijke commissie' van zeven leden ingesteld om de recente uitbarsting van geweld in de kustprovincies te onderzoeken. De commissie zal 'de schendingen tegen burgers onderzoeken en de verantwoordelijken daarvoor identificeren', aldus overgangspresident Ahmed al-Sharaa. 'Het is volledig uit de hand gelopen. Het is heel ondermijnend voor zijn reputatie', zegt Midden-Oostencorrespondent Tara Kenkhuis.
