De Nederlandse Europarlementariërs zijn kritisch op het voorstel voor de nieuwe EU- meerjarenbegroting en dan met name om de omvang van die begroting van 1200 miljard naar 2000 miljard. Volgens macro-econoom Carsten Brzeski van ING Research toont de begroting een verschuiving naar meer concurrentiekracht. Toch is het bedrag nog te laag in relatie tot de Europese ambities.
