Het plan van de Europese Commissie om de auto-industrie te redden, roept gemengde reacties op in het Europees Parlement. De Commissie wil autobouwers langer de tijd geven om de CO2-doelstellingen te halen, maar volgens Mohammed Chahim, Europarlementariër namens GroenLinks-PvdA, zit het probleem juist bij het gebrek aan innovatie. 'Er is onvoldoende geïnvesteerd in de infrastructuur om te kunnen concurreren met China.'
