Een nieuwe griepvariant verspreidt zich dusdanig snel dat het Europees Centrum voor ziektepreventie en -bestrijding waarschuwt. De huidige vaccins bieden geen bescherming, omdat de variant er niet in zit. Toch is er geen sprake van een volledig nieuw virus, benadrukt Marc van Ranst, hoogleraar virologie aan de KU Leuven.
