De Europese toezichthouder op de financiële markten (ESMA) wil meer bevoegdheden om grote beurzen en essentiële financiële infrastructuur te controleren. Daarbij wil het een rol aannemen die vergelijkbaar is met de Amerikaanse toezichthouder SEC. Dat zegt de voorzitter van de ESMA in gesprek met The Financial Times. ‘Laten we ervoor zorgen dat de EU centraal toezicht houdt waar dat op dit moment het meest zinvol is’, zegt Verena Ross, topvrouw van de Europese waakhond.
