De elektriciteitsproductie uit fossiele bronnen is weer toegenomen, met name om aan de energiebehoefte in de buurlanden te voorzien. In totaal wekten energiebedrijven en andere producenten samen 132 miljard kilowattuur (kWh) stroom op in 2025, een recordhoeveelheid. Dat meldt het Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS). Het totale elektriciteitsverbruik in Nederland zelf is de afgelopen jaren nauwelijks gestegen.
