Many people get deep into the weeds of macro when they should be able to simply look at the charts and evaluate where we are. Many people will claim that charts can lie to you, and that the market is a random walk, but that is absolutely false. Instead, they will claim some extra-ordinary ability to read the charts of "fundamentals", which is just one more step removed from doing analysis directly on the price. I remember a couple years ago, I was using a Google Search Trends chart and drawing a line on it to show a breakout in attention for bitcoin. Someone remarked, "we're doing TA on Google Trends now?" Any "metric" or fundamental is going to be presented versus previous data/history. It is technical analysis on a derivative of price believe it or not. In this one, I react to Gary Gensler in front of Congress, discuss Chinese debt to GDP vs other economies, and the possibility of a rotation back into equities for the remainder of the year. You've probably seen the Gensler videos, but I link them below. The main through-line of my reaction is that it is a lie that there is no clarity on the question of altcoins being unregistered securities, it is just that the purveyor of those securities don't want to accept it. Bitcoiners have clearly stated why for years and now the SEC is going after people. That's all that needs to be said, it is pretty common sense. The lack of clarity, or uncertainty, out there in the market is from the gaslighting of purveyors of those unregistered securities. Next, I discuss the Chinese debt to GDP nightmare. It is simply astonishing the level to which China is built on a house of cards. Lastly, I talk about the market in general being overweight bonds relative to equities, and if we don't get the massive crisis recession everyone is expecting soon, we could see the rotation back into equities. We are probably familiar with communist progressives on the left, but there is also a school on the right of technology progressives. The latter thinks there will be ever increasing levels of technology and it would be best if governments got out of the way. While I do believe capitalism is the way to go, this progressive vision of moving toward a technological utopia of AI, robots, and interstellar travel is very unlikely with more free markets. It is likely we will choose family and faith over progress of this nature, we'll move out of cities and become more self-sufficient instead of growing more fragile and dependent on ever centralizing systems Next is about altcoiners starting to see the light as the SEC swoops in and destroys the viability of all these scams. Lastly, we breifly cover retail sales in the US accelerating in January, but how this doesn't necessarily mean the Fed will clamp down harder. All they've done hasn't squashed the economy, so what makes people think them doing more will do that? What if they don't do much of anything in the real economy and they are only playing experts for the cameras. Enjoy.
