SHOW TOPICS:&nbsp;&nbsp;Jim Lord and Gabe Lord share their respective generational perspectives on being on the leading edge of homeschooling in the 1980’s.&nbsp;&nbsp;Both are Bitcoiners.&nbsp;&nbsp;Both are veterans.&nbsp;&nbsp;Listen to how the values of all these areas are intertwined.&nbsp;&nbsp;IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:Perspective of 2 generations:&nbsp;&nbsp;military family pioneering homeschooling in the 80’s.In this case, it was the Dad who oranged-pilled his son.Both bringing Bitcoin to veterans through Operation BitcoinThere are many correlations between veterans, Bitcoiners and homeschoolers.How Jim Lord and his fellow homeschooling parents responded to uniformed law enforcement serving them a subpoena for educational child neglectThe government does NOT love youStates receive stipends from the federal government for military dependents attending public school.&nbsp;&nbsp;This creates unhealthly monetary incentives for the states to act against homeschooling parents.Government officials are typically cowardsTestimony of how advanced students can get poor grades because they are artificially slowed down with standardized curriculum.&nbsp;&nbsp;Smart students are bored out of their minds.Holding kids back emotionally and/or academically, e.g., because of financial incentives, is disturbing and the reason why taking self-custody of education is so critical.Bad things happen when good people don’t stand up.&nbsp;&nbsp;But not everyone has resources to make a stand.Support is difficult to find because of trends, e.g. families living far away from relatives, and the need for double-income households.&nbsp;Even if you don’t have kids yet, you can start to build support groups, e.g., veterans, homeschoolers, Bitcoiners, church, etc., early.&nbsp;&nbsp;If you are not already part of one, then start reaching out to find/build one.Contrasting the experiences of the “worst” and “best” public school districts.Parent-child relations are so, so important.&nbsp;&nbsp;Gabe and his Dad, Jim, exemplify how homeschooling fosters strong bonds.&nbsp;&nbsp;And now Gabe is passing this onto his family, with his children.Even when both parents must work to the support the family, that does not mean they don’t have opportunities to bond and teach their children, e.g., Gabe and his daughter doing their own podcast.&nbsp;&nbsp;Reading to your kids when they babies, young kids can really contribute to the parent-child bond.&nbsp;&nbsp;Make time for reading to and with your kids.Parents are human too.&nbsp;&nbsp;You make mistakes.&nbsp;&nbsp;It’s expected and okay.&nbsp;&nbsp;Homeschooling allows older children to teach younger children.&nbsp;&nbsp;This helps both those who teach, those who are being taught, and the parents all benefit.&nbsp;&nbsp;Sibling-to-sibling relationships are critical just like parent-child relationships.When kids explain ideas to other kids, the teaching-child learns better.&nbsp;&nbsp;And they increase their confidence as well.Homeschooling is 100% okay in the US military.&nbsp;&nbsp;Search on the HSLDA website for information.&nbsp;&nbsp;Schools on military bases are plagued by the same challenges and issues facing all other public schools.As a kid, Gabe sold donuts door-to-door to pay for books and other materials used in their homeschool curriculum.&nbsp;&nbsp;This is part of how Jim taught their children about money, through experience.Kids are always watching you.&nbsp;&nbsp;They learn from what’s caught more than what’s taught.Things are more challenging today for kids to earn money.&nbsp;&nbsp;You can’t just send them into the street.It never really ends.&nbsp;&nbsp;Learning for both parents and their kids continues...

SHOW TOPICS:&nbsp;&nbsp;We can’t control lobbying or money printing but we can control what we do at home.&nbsp;&nbsp;Foster your parent-child bonds.&nbsp;&nbsp;Protect them from the hidden costs of money on the family.IN THIS EPISODE, YOU'LL LEARN:Our monetary environment plays a role in our parents’ ability to show up authentically.For example, when parents have to work their ass off to try to support the family’s financial needs, it can lead to kids not getting their emotional needs met.The latter leads to yet other secondary, tertiary issues.Seb’s book “Hidden Cost of Money” has entire chapter on the family unit.Seb describes how money is like language, it communicates information.&nbsp;&nbsp;It’s a “medium of expression,” not just a medium of exchange.Like language, money can also be censored.An example is capital controls in China.&nbsp;&nbsp;A father who cannot store his capital for his family, cannot express his support for his family.The ability to express ourselves is vital for kids, for parents.Everyone’s time preference is impacted by money, and not for the better.&nbsp;&nbsp;The loss of purchasing power through inflation is decreasing the focus on building long term security for one’s family and increasing the focus on impulsive, consumer-based decisions.Meaninglessness sets in as the rising cost of living makes it more and more challenging to plan.&nbsp;&nbsp;In psychological terms, the locus of control is shifting from internal to external.&nbsp;&nbsp;This leads to poor health outcomes.People get stuck at the bottom layer of the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs because money is broken and their purchasing power melts.&nbsp;&nbsp;They therefore have harder and harder time moving up to self-actualization.&nbsp;&nbsp;This reduces altruism and compassion to give back.Tali challenges if there isn’t a silver lining in how bad our money is broken.&nbsp;&nbsp;For example, one of America’s greatest strengths, a strive for individualism, is also our great weakness, e.g., spiritual wealth.&nbsp;&nbsp;Perhaps this will bring extended families back together.There are compounding negative impacts for kids: stress of the mother during pregnancy, poor diet, less time with parents.The world is not black and white.&nbsp;&nbsp;Other factors are the medical system, social media, and lobbying, e.,g. big pharm.&nbsp;&nbsp;Their incentives are not aligned with a low time preference strategy on health where we would address chronic illnesses decades before they become urgent.Comparing and contrasting the western and eastern views of life, health and death.Tali brings it back to the family level.&nbsp;&nbsp;We can’t control lobbying.&nbsp;&nbsp;We can’t control money printing.&nbsp;&nbsp;But we can control what we do at home, i.e., keeping a positive mental attitude and sharing positive energy.Before a child is even born, it is impacted by the mother’s stress, e.g., stress hormones.&nbsp;&nbsp;And money is one the largest sources of stress.&nbsp;&nbsp;When kids are motivated and passionate about something, their capacity to learn is exponentially greater.&nbsp;&nbsp;Therefore, if a child shows an interest in something, allow and encourage them to pursue it.Kids needs to have some outlet in the physical or sport realm.&nbsp;What do you value?&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Comparing and contrasting the 3 P’s (power, prestige, possession) versus the 3 C’s (contributions, challenges, connections).There are decisions you can make that you a better parent.&nbsp;&nbsp;Teaching critical thinking is one of those.There is a spectrum of protecting kids.&nbsp;&nbsp;On one side is “share everything”.&nbsp;&nbsp;On the other is extreme nurturing.&nbsp;&nbsp;Understanding this framework helps think through what and
