The Coalition for Responsible Use Planning aims to revive an old airstrip in North Dakotas Badlands, known as the Elkhorn Airstrip, on federal grassland land. This two thousand four hundred-foot runway would cater to recreational pilots seeking easy access to the backcountry. The site, previously part of the Eberts Ranch, is near Elkhorn Ranch, where Theodore Roosevelt used to hunt. State agencies support the project, citing a lack of similar airstrips in the area. However, the Badlands Conservation Alliance opposes it, fearing disruption to wildlife habitats and the areas tranquility. The Forest Service is currently accepting public comments until April sixth.
