Lenora Pate, a trailblazing figure from Birmingham, was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame. She was the first woman to lead Alabama’s Department of Industrial Relations and ran for governor in 1998. Pate, a lawyer with top awards in health care law, graduated as salutatorian from Samford University’s law school in 1985 while raising two children alone. Her anti-smoking advocacy and role in building UAB’s Kirklin Clinic have left a lasting impact. This year’s class also includes Lieutenant Colonel Sara Narcissa Harris and the Mothers of Gynecology. Despite her passing in 2021, Pates story continues to inspire limit-breaking leadership in Alabama.
