Gas prices in Birmingham and across the nation have surged, with Birmingham seeing a forty-cent jump to an average of three dollars and one cent per gallon. Nationally, the average climbed fifty-one cents to three dollars and forty-five cents. Prices have increased significantly from last month and last year, with Birmingham prices now fifty-four cents higher than a month ago and thirty-six cents more than last year. Diesel has seen an even bigger surge, rising eighty-six cents nationally to four dollars and sixty cents a gallon. Nearby cities like Montgomery and Huntsville have also seen significant increases, with Alabamas statewide average sitting at three dollars and three cents, up nearly forty cents from last week.
