I'm a photographer based in Oregon, I do a lot of landscape work. And this image was taken in California on a trip that we did to Mount Shasta to the east side of Mount Shasta. It was just kind of a really cool spot. It's kind of interesting near the town of Mount Shasta near the town of McLeod, if I remember right, there's a lot of good stuff over there a lot of good camping too. There's a lot of, I think it was the Shasta Trinity national forest that stretches out over there. So there's a lot of public land that that's developed enough and accessible for for a number of things you can do for summer recreation, it was pretty cool. I remember going up to a lookout tower up there, checking out some stuff, I think there's a fire lookout tower, some old timer was up there too. But this image was taken on government camp roa

I was thinking today I went to my local film store, my local camera store, dotson's here in Eugene. And I dropped off a rule of actie film this 100 speed acti film that I that I recently finished I guess kind of is sometime in junior I finished the role I was shooting a Nikon nav camera with a 50 millimeter lens. I just dropped it off to get it developed. But I don't I don't do the scanning anymore. I kind of got tired of that I wanted to shift over to a more modern digital system. But I like shooting film, I dropped it off at DOT Dawson's they do sort of a 24 hour ish. You know, return time, which is great. It's fantastic. But I said well hey, like do the develop only I don't need the prints. But I do want a digital version. So do a CD print up the CD for me. But now optical media is so rare. I don't have a CD drive, I don't have a CD drive in the house I have I have a computer over here, set aside or like an old desktop compute

I'm talking about another photograph of mine today this image comes from the Sierra Nevadas, down near Lone Pine, California. In Eastern California, that section of the Eastern cascades is really interesting. It's really quite remote out there, there's very few towns but this was an area called the Alabama hills. And there really an interesting kind of geological formation out there where the it's it's a certain type of sandstone I suppose. I don't know, really. But it's a certain type of erosion out there that looks really interesting set against the juxtaposition of these really sharp kind of pointed sets, or Well, I don't know, point instead of the mountain range, the Sierra Nevada is just a little bit past that you've seen it a ton of times. And this photograph today comes from the lower Rogue River in Southern Oregon really cool area the Rogue River is awesome I think it starts up outside of Crater Lake and then kind of flows down through Southern Oregon comes out near near gold beaches i think but it kind of in this section I think it's cutting through some of the siskey range in Southern Oregon as that kind of goes down but really beautiful spot this is a blossom bar blossom bars one of the most technical or I think maybe maybe one of the most challenging or most infamous features on the Rogue River as you're going down there especially through the the wild and scenic section at least it seemed like that there was a few other things that seemed difficult but but this is a really tricky spot because so many boulders as you can kind of see in there, it makes that channel that navigable channel, r

Also, a cool space event is happening right about now. So it's fun but probably talk about a couple of those things in this episode. I wanted to talk about this idea that I've been reading in a book I was checking out, the wilderness skills and survival book put out by meat eater. I think Steve Rinella writes it. And you know, the group of people that put together the meat eater and the podcast, and a lot of that is where it gets a lot of the good information that I get for outdoor wilderness stuff is, is out of that podcast as our content shows and stuff, but a second of this passage in their book that I was reading, and he was talking about outdoor risk and wilderness areas. It was sort of it talked about it more broadly. But then it brought it down into the United States. And it was mentioned in the number of injuries, specifically deaths that have occurred in photography-related activities. And it was mentioned that that photography-related activity was one of the highest killers in the wilderness in the last decade, as we saw, like a big ramp-up of it. And I think worldwide, and i

And then it also has like a ton of wetland out here where a bunch of geese and eat grits and different birds come through. There's like a bunch of hawks is out in this field. There's are Eagles like bald eagles that come through and a pretty high number, I think a little later in the year or kind of like in like January, February, and March is when I see him out here like done in those fields. I think I've maybe talked about it last year when these this field you know you see like six or seven bald eagles floating out in the little trees out by the creekside. Then they would come out flying around to be competitive with each other, making loops around each other to try and get a carry-in that don't know been left out in the field somewhere. So it's weird to see how these birds kind of act and how they operate and stuff, but

Today 2020 of everybody's doing well, and I think this accounts for like the first, the first full day after the 15th, which marks the beginning of phase one reopening here in the Oregon area. I guess a lot of other states are sort of entering into the same kind of thing with the beginning of their reopenings. And starting up. I think the start of the I think it's like a lot of retail stores. I don't know what's still restricted. I think there's still like a number of private businesses that can't really can't really get started, it seems like a lot of restaurant stuff is still kind of held back, was it gyms or something? Maybe that's the kind of held back? It seems like, it seems like a lot of places are really kind of getting going. But maybe it's like California, I keep hearing news out of there probably because, you know, there's so many people in that area that that are, you know, producing media and stuff. But I keep hearing kind of strange rules out of the lockdown that sort of continues to go on and the LA County area and along like the California coast and that area. How's it going? Thanks for checking this one. I finished up that camping trip I was doing up the mountain Creek there in the Cascades a couple days ago. What was that like Wednesday, I think it was like maybe like Tuesday, Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. I think that was the super moon that was coming up that night. If I remember right, and that was pretty cool. It was cool to see the full moon up there. And they always talk about the Super Moon, which is kind of a, I don't know, it's a little bit of a misnomer. But it's, it's cool to see to that thing to talk about happening every six months or so. Really, it's just kind of the oscillation of a bit of the eccentricities in the orbit of the moon that make it I think about 25,000 miles closer than its maximum, and then maybe about 25,000 miles further away. And it's distant maximum. But I think it's really only like a little bit of a sliver larger than it normally would be. If you notice though, it's a thing I learned way back. And I think that they show it at a scene in Apollo 13. But if you put your hand all the way out and you put your thumb up at all times, you're able to cover the entire Full Moon, just with your thumbnail. It's pretty wild, man, you can always like visualize the m

How's it going? Thanks a lot for tuning into this episode, I'm catching up on sun, national forest land right now about cold Creek in an area, kind of outside of where I'm living in Oregon. And it's gone pretty well, we're having a good day, I'm just here by myself. So I'm doing a solo camping trip. It's the first solo night out I've done this year, and I'm excited to be doing it. I think it's gonna be kind of cool. It's been fun. So far too. It's been, it's been pretty mellow. I'm out here at my campsite, I got my recording gear, rigged up and I'm at the tailgate of my truck, and made a fire earlier in the fire rank. And it's a pretty clear night, pretty mellow weather seems kind of cold up here. It's sort of a mountain. And I think it's close-ish to the snow level. But still a few. It's still a bit above me, I drove up to it earlier. So earlier, when I was coming in, I left at about noon today. And I took off and drove to town up into the forest and then up kind of on this meandering Forest Service road. And you think right now that you know, maybe a lot of stuff would be empty or or you're not in a lot of use. But really, when I got out here, I noticed a good bit of traffic, it's a nice day, it's May, it's may 6. So I bet people are kind of getting out and and just kind of given the environment that we're in right now where people don't get to, or you know, that are just kin
