China’s new AI startup, Deepseek, has turned the tech world upside down with it’s high performance at an astonishingly low cost, supposedly doing an end-run around nVidia’s high-end, export-restricted GPUs. But is this performance / price point real, and even if it is, is Deepseek — like TikTok and RedNote — nothing more nor less than Chinese Communist Party spyware?
