Show Notes

In Episode 65, Ben chats with Tiffany Joseph, producer of Nigh Functioning Autism.  Tiffany is a mom to three children two of whom are diagnosed with autism and ADHD. Tiffany, who is Autistic herself, is also a user of Augmentative and Alternate Communication (AAC) and does a lot of advocacy work for both Autistics and AAC users. In this episode, Tiffany communicates almost entirely using her speech-generating AAC device and none of the pauses where Tiffany is typing on her device are removed from the recording so listeners can understand what communication with an AAC user is really like.  We discuss important issues like AAC Trauma, oralism, and the presumption of competence in all users.

The video recording of this episode will also be published on YouTube so listeners can experience the full interaction.  The secret words will not be on the videos so it's suggested that you play the audio track while watching the video on mute.
