Show Notes

Most people don’t think of AIDS in the ’90s as something that affected women and families. Until August 20, 1990, Julie Lewis was one of those people. On that day, she was diagnosed with HIV and thrust from the world of a suburban mom into the unpredictable world of AIDS. Julie found herself fighting for her life and rights amidst a disease she never imagined would hijack her future. She was told she had 3 to 5 years to live and is now a grandmother and even experienced the thrill of witnessing her son, Ryan Lewis, (Macklemore and Lewis) become an accomplished music producer and be awarded multiple Grammys. Julie documents her incredible journey in her new memoir Still Positive and shares her work with the nonprofit https://www.3030project.org/ helping to build access to quality health care for those who need it most.
