S1 Ep 121The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires Book Club

For this month's book club we're discussing The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires by Grady Hendricks. This book came highly recommended by Grace's mom and it definitely sparked some fun conversation. While this is not the type of book either of us typically pick up, we wanted something more fun to take some pressure off during quarantine. The story follows Patricia Campbell, a southern housewife, who joins a true crime book club where she forms a tight knit group of female friends. When they discover that their neighbor, James Harris, is actually a vampire who is terrorizing the town and feeding on children, the women of the book club stand up to take matters into their own hands. Who ever thought a book club would end in cold-blooded murder?! As always, we can't wait to hear what you think in the Facebook group - let us know! We loved all of your listener questions! We had so many that we split them into two episodes and today we are back with a part 2! We saved the most fun ones for this episode. We're covering everything from AIM screennames and celebrity crushes (Grace and Paul Rudd are going backpacking together? Becca stalks Scott Foley's wife for updates?) to home decor inspo, how we found (and decorated our apartments), our favorite artists, and go-to gifts to give. S1 Ep 119Celebrity Tanner & Isle of Paradise Founder, Jules Von Hep, on Body Positivity, Self Tanning, and Building his Brand.

After a highly requested (micro) deep-dive into Normal People (we loved the show maybe even more than the book!), we chat with Jules Von Hep! Jules is a celebrity tanning expert and the founder of the (clean! vegan!) line Isle of Paradise. We chat with him about how quarantine is going in the UK and then move along to his career and how he founded Isle of Paradise. He walks us through his career path and how he got to where he is today (he's tanned everyone from Kate Moss to Kendall Jenner!),how + why he started Isle of Paradise, and of course all his best self-tanning advice - answering all of your self tanning questions and providing helpful tips for first timers. But the best part of the interview was all of the incredible life advice. Jules talks about saying no (his advice here is so good), navigating negativity, and how to be more body confident! We also talk about how we maintain our privacy (spoiler alert: we're in charge!) and all sorts of other things. Will Becca ever get a dog? Has Grace always been a cat person? Does she walk Tyrion? How did we meet? We got a ton of podcast related questions so we also give a behind the scenes look at the process of creating Bad on Paper. Yesterday we talked about In Five Years by Rebecca Serle and today she is joining us to give a behind the scenes look at how she wrote the book! Rebecca is an author and television writer in NYC and LA, she has written 6 novels and co-developed the hit television adaptation of her YA series, Famous in Love. We talk about the differences between screenwriting and writing a novel (and why her heart stays with books!) - and the process of adapting a book into a TV show. S1 Ep 116In Five Years Book Club

This month, we read In Five Years by Rebecca Serle. We both absolutely loved this book and read it in under 24 hours. Before diving into the book, we do our usual quarantine catch up. We are both healthy, staying busy, and Tyrion (Grace's cat) seems to have developed a newfound love for Zoom calls. This book is about best friends, Dannie and Bella. Dannie is a little bit uptight and is one of those women who always has a plan and knows exactly what she wants. Meanwhile, Bella is a bit more flighty and romantic. On the night that Dannie gets engaged to her long-time boyfriend, David, she has an extremely vivid dream of where her life will be in 5 years. She's in a different apartment, with a different (and sexy) man. We then see how the next five years play out and what happens. Dannie is jilted when she meets Bella's new boyfriend Greg - it's the man from her dream! Bella falls ill and a series of other events happen to turn Dannie's life upside down. She ends up exactly where the dream predicted - discovering that fate is most certainly real. This book will make you cry - but the good kind! This is our favorite book from 2020 - we hope you love it as much as we did! S1 Ep 114FMK: Quarantine Edition

E

Today, we poured ourselves a glass of wine and play a remote game of FMK (Fuck, Marry, Kill) with YOUR prompts! But first, we catch up on how we are holding up in quarantine. We are definitely a mix of adjusting and feeling trapped, but over all we are doing alright. This episode is a weird one and we are into it. We go through all the important categories… books, meals, celebs, TV characters. Becca kills breakfast (and short men?) and Grace makes a surprising choice when it comes to the Younger cast. Also: who knew the hardest questions would be about food?? We hope you enjoy and are inspired to prompt your friends… we highly recommend setting up a FMK Zoom with your own friends! S1 Ep 113Bad on Politics #6: Stacey Abrams on Voting Rights

Stacey Abrams, needs no introduction but we'll give her one anyway. She's a New York times bestselling author, non profit CEO, and political leader.. and today she joins us to answer all our questions about voting rights: an incredibly important issue that we didn't know NEARLY enough about before this interview. After losing her 2018 Georgia gubernatorial race, Abrams created Fair Fight to ensure that all Americans were able to vote and to have their votes counted. We talk to her about the different forms of voter suppression and how this disproportionately affects people of color, women, the elderly, and college students. We also discuss how we can make sure we have a safe and fair election in 2020. About Bad on Politics: Bad on Politics is a monthly bonus episode where we invite a guest expert to help us break down a political topic. We get it, politics is confusing and there's a anxiety-inducing amount of news coverage to follow. So, we're here to ask the "dumb" questions so you don't have to. S1 Ep 104Followers Book Club

Followers by Megan Angelo is a thought provoking take on influencer culture. The book alternates between the present day story of Orla and Floss living in modern day New York with their own reality TV show; and Marlow, 35 years from now living in a town called Constellation where influencers have become government employees and have their lives broadcasted 23/7. It's sharp and witty (and a bit of a cautionary tale - when does sharing go TOO FAR?) This book is a great conversation starter and will take you on a wild ride from New York to California to a futuristic (internet-free) colony called Atlantis. We couldn't put this book down and are still thinking about it weeks later! S1 Ep 102Being Single Doesn't Have to Suck!

In this (highly requested) episode we are talking about being single in your thirties! We answer all of your questions about dating, and give the best advice we can from our own experiences. This episode is broken into four parts: why being single in your thirties is actually pretty great, how to stay positive, how to make new friends (and keep the old), and all things DATING (another hot topic). We share our weirdest dates, our favorite apps (and when to delete them), ways to meet people IRL, thoughts on freezing our eggs, and managing dating app burnout. If there's one thing you take away from this episode, it's the importance of building a life you truly love - one that feels good to YOU… with our without a partner! This is hands down one of our favorite interviews yet! Erica Cerulo and Claire Mazur, founders of Of a Kind (RIP!), join us to talk about founding and running a business with your friend. We dive into how they split their roles in the business, travel styles, and hiring a management coach (AKA a business therapist). We also chat about how they're processing the closure of their company and what's next. Then we turn to the subject of motherhood, and have an incredibly candid conversation about how Claire grappled with whether or not she wanted children, how Erica has defended her choice not to have children, and how they've supported each other and stayed close despite their disparate decisions. S1 Ep 100Good Girls Lie Book Club

This month we read Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison. This book combines some of our favorite things: rich unsupervised teens at a boarding school, secret societies… and murder. Ash is an outcast, relocating from England to attend boarding school at the prestigious Goode School in Virginia. Her parents have passed away, she has an abusive past with her father, and she definitely has a lot of secrets. When she gets tapped for the Ivy Bound secret society, things go haywire. Her roommate dies and now we are trying to figure out who did it and why. Even though we found (nearly) every character to be deeply unlikable, we still really enjoyed the book. We got to rehash our love for secret societies (and the movie The Skulls). Grace reveals what happens in her sorority's initiation rituals... and that she doesn't like Gilmore Girls (gasp!). S1 Ep 99Bad on Politics #4: Alyssa Mastromonaco on congressional elections and a grab bag of questions!

We welcome back friend of the pod (and former Obama Deputy Chief of Staff), Alyssa Mastromonaco to answer our burning questions about this presidential election. Alyssa explains what happens to donations when a candidate drops out of the race, endorsements, and where you can go to find out more about the local politics that you can have a direct effect on. She also touches on Amy Klobuchar, Elizabeth Warren, Mike Bloomberg, and why we need to keep an eye on how the candidates spend their money (like during the Superbowl). She also explains how the caucus system works (it's kind of crazy!) and why local politics are so important if you want to enact real change. More Alyssa: Twitter: @alyssamastro44 Instagram: @mastro175 Podcast: Hysteria Alyssa's Books: Who Thought This Was a Good Idea? We get it, politics is confusing and there's a anxiety-inducing amount of news coverage to follow. So, we're here to ask the "dumb" questions so you don't have to. We want to break things down so you can understand what's going on and make an informed opinion.

S1 Ep 87Lauren Chan on modeling, her new plus-size luxury clothing brand, and leaning into what makes you unique.

Today we are joined by Lauren Chan, the founder and CEO of Henning, a newly launched luxury plus-size clothing brand. We're completely in love with this brand and all its thoughtful details! We're also obsessed with Lauren, TBH. She gives us a peek into her experiences as both a plus-size model and fashion editor for Glamour Magazine. We get her insight into how the plus-size modeling landscape has changed over the years and how modeling has affected her relationship with her body. Maybe most interesting, she pulls back the curtain on all the retouching (and padding!) that goes on behind the scenes. We're shook! We also chat about her experience starting her own business (without any outside funding!), and the lessons she's learned along the way. Products, places, and links mentioned: Check out Henning here. S1 Ep 86Personality Tests! A deep dive into the 5 love languages, The Enneagram, + Myers Briggs

We don't know about you but we are both personality test obsessed. Today we're taking a look at three of our favorites: the 5 love languages, the Enneagram, and Myers Briggs. Every personality has its good and its bad, and we are both very cool with both sides of our own (thankfully!) If you ever think that Becca is roasting Grace, don't worry - that is how she shows love. We also break down introverts vs. extroverts. Grace gets on her soapbox: Just because you're introverted doesn't mean you're shy! We have a ton in common personality - wise, but when we differ, we definitely DIFFER! Take the quizzes yourself and see what we all have in common, and then come about them with us in the facebook group! Quizzes Mentioned: The 5 Love Languages - Take the test!
