Every year, the publishers of major dictionaries declare a “word of the year.” The words of the year for 2025 include “rage bait,” “slop” and “6-7” and reflect a lot about our internet-driven society. We talk more about it with Bill Schmitt.

Bill Schmitt is a Catholic journalist, blogging for Father Robert Spitzer’s Magis Center for Reason and Faith, and reporting for diocesan newspapers in New York State. He holds a BA from Fordham University and an MPA from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs, plus a certificate in theological studies from Georgetown. He served on the communications staff at the University of Notre Dame for 15 years.
