On January 21, 1793, the guillotine fell upon the neck of French King Louis XVI. The execution of the French monarch was a symbolic moment then because the revolt ceased to be rhetorical. At that point, it became a public declaration of warfare. This week the Franciscan University community was rocked by the sudden death of two of its students. Luke Reimer and Mary Mich were found inside of a car in a campus parking lot and investigators believe they died from an engine gas leak. The Catholic Church teaches that the grounds for our justification is our interior state of holiness, which God brings about within us when we are initially saved. Scott Adams, creator of the comic strip Dilbert, recently announced he plans to convert to Christianity as he faces terminal prostate cancer. He has previously described himself as Agnostic, but says many of his Christian friends have reached out to him since his diagnosis last spring. Adams says he plans to convert because if he’s wrong, he loses nothing, but if he’s right, he “wakes up in heaven,” a classic example of Pascal’s Wager.
