Ep 107From Akron with Love with Audience of Rain

E

Akron, OH is known for the Goodyear Plant that makes racing tires specifically (in case you were wondering) and is my hometown. Another thing you can find in Akron is the band Audience of Rain. I was pleasantly surprised to find out after talking with the band that the rock/metal scene is doing well there. We talked about how and when they formed, what the scene is like around them and the venue situation since we all know what happened to so many years ago. We also talked about the DIY house parties and their upcoming show on July 29th in Wilmington, OH along with the meaning of their song "Earth//Decay" and "Anti-Venom".About Audience of Rain:Audience of Rain is a modern hard rock / metalcore band out of Akron, Ohio. The band draws from their hard rock, metal and metalcore roots to build a modern sound with imaginative lyrics fueled by mutual passion. Audience of Rain provides a message of togetherness, that even when isolated, we all share common frustrations and fears, hopes and dreams, and in that sense, that we are never abandoned or alone. Ep 106Brews, Brujas and Blunts (and BBQ) with Scoundrel

E

I sat down with Eric Gutierez of Scoundrel out of Fresno, CA and was also joined by the man himself Taylor Anderson (Titan Audio /Aaerial/Pala) for a chat back in late April 2023 to learn a little bit more about the heavy coming out of the west coast. Due to life getting in the way on my end, this podcast was a little behind schedule to promote their recent tour that had three stops in Texas. I spoke to the band and they said the tour was great and they plan on coming back to Texas and hitting the other markets so I owe them a redo. Eric is the main song writer for Scoundrel and also I found out he is a bit of a foodie (he'd fit in well here in Austin). We talked about their singles "Ides of March" and "Skinwalker", Eric's live set up, AI generated cover art and we even got some Titan Tips from Taylor.Message from the band:Fueled by “Brews, Brujas and Blunts”, Scoundrel is THE heart-pounding metalcore outfit from Fresno, California, which was formed in late October of 2018 by Guitarist Eric Gutierrez, Bassist Steffen Clark and Drummer Chris Bradburd. Scoundrel thrives with heavy influences from Hardcore, Nu-metal, Deathcore, and Progressive metal. Scoundrel focuses on raw, force-of-nature-type energy when playing live and in the studio – having shared the stage with a diverse catalogue of bands such as Left to Suffer, Oceano, Nonpoint, Dropout Kings, Alesana Carnifex, Enterprise Earth, The Faceless, and many more. Ep 105Just press the Spacebar when you're done with Sozora

E

Sozora is a band with a diverse and evocative sound. the group's music combines many influences, including post-punk, hardcode, and more.I sat down with Trevor, Jacob, Aaron and Jake along with Jet who helped produce the interview out at DUP Recording Studio in Burnet, Tx. I have known these guys for a really long time, seen them play at various venues around Austin and to me, they are one of THE definitions of local Texas metal. Join us for an hour or so convo about where they started, how many different connections we have through the local scene and a few more tasty topics.Message from the band:Our most recent album "Pillars" allows a hard-hitting wall of sound to collide with lush and mesmerizing melodies. Clean vocals and blood curdling screams alternate seamlessly, creating a huge dynamic range for a true sonic roller coaster. From lush, reverb-laden guitar parts to down-tuned heavy riffs and even some tasteful dissonance, anything goes.Episode Info:Bandcamp: https://sozora.bandcamp.com/FB: https://www.facebook.com/sozorabandIG: https://www.instagram.com/sozoramusic/Intro track: "Common Flow" by ArborennaFeatured track: "Pillars" by Sozora of their latest album "Pillars"ATXMP Website: https://www.atxmp.com/Sponsors:Come and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.com/Come and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/Bumperactive: https://www.bumperactive.com/Titan Audio Productions: https://titanaudioproductions.com/Texas Metal United: https://www.facebook.com/TexasMetalUnited/

E

I sit down and chat with Jake Miller (vocals) and Jesse Pina (drums) to talk about their latest single "Slaughtered in the Woods" and their latest album "The Eagle Lake Slasher". If you are into Texas death metal, slam and beatdown tunes, then Scrap Pile is going to need to be added to your playlist. Ep 103Concert in a Bottle with Framing Skeletons

E

Framing Skeletons is a progressive metal band from Houston, Texas that fuses the complex polyrhythms and soul-crushing heaviness of djent with the thematic consistency and experimentation of traditional progressive rock. The band consists of Jeremy Burke (guitars/vocals), Bryan Holub (drums/back vox) and Ethan Berry (bass/back vox). The music scene is smaller than you think, even though music can be found everywhere. Here in Texas, the 6 degrees of separation is more like 2. Through some mutual friends, I was informed of Framing Skeletons and after jamming their discography, I had to get an interview on the books. We chatted about all the usual stuff like how they formed, oh shit moments on stage and their forthcoming LP that is going to be over an hour long! I had a great time hanging out with the trio and highly suggest you put them into your playlists wherever you get your music.Episode Info:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@framingskeletons3176FB: https://www.facebook.com/framingskeletonsIG: https://www.instagram.com/framingskeletons/Bandcamp: https://framingskeletons.bandcamp.com/musicIntro track: "Common Flow" by ArborennaFeatured track: "The Rightful Heir to Acrelot" by Framing Skeletons ATXMP Website: https://www.atxmp.com/Sponsors:Come and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.com/Come and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/Bumperactive: https://www.bumperactive.com/Titan Audio Productions: https://titanaudioproductions.com/

Ep 102Hot tea and Beer with The Bottomless

E

The Bottomless is a progressive experimental band that defies genre! The name " the Bottomless" is in reference to the infinite potential of music and drive to want to change! Members include Aj Johnson on vocals and guitar, Sheridan Kruitz on Vocals, Tyler Watts on guitar and Tj Hargrove on drums. This was one of my first in person interviews this year and I really do miss being in the room with the people I interview. There is just so much more energy and the conversation just flows even though we are total strangers. Their home is "THE" definition of an Austin musician's home. Gear everywhere. Drums set up in the living room. It just had that vibe. I am grateful to them for allowing me to come to their home, get to know them and help share their story and music. Ep 100Forehead Kisses with Paradise Refined

E

Episode 100 is here!!! This one is a wild one so strap in. Paradise Refined is another band I randomly found in the comments of the Bill Lumberg meme and I have to say, I am happy I found them. I had the honor of hosting Reagan (vocals/guitar) and Charlie (bass) on their very first podcast. We covered so many topics in this 90+ minute episode. I honestly felt like I was talking to some of my closest friends from back home.Hollering all the way from Knoxville, TN, these guys are some wholesome ass dudes. We talked about gaming, gear, what album's "did it" for them, to anime (peep the merch store) to their music scene and finished off with mental health. They told a couple "Tales From the Pit" and dropped some tasty bands from around their neck of the woods. 10/10 recommend giving this band a follow so check out their links below and stay tuned for more to come.Episode Info:Paradise Refined Merch: https://paradiserefinedmerch.creator-spring.com/Paradise Refined FB: https://www.facebook.com/paradiserefined/Paradise Refined TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@raganrogaine?lang=en Intro track: "Common Flow" by ArborennaFeatured tracks: "On My Own" single release by Paradise RefinedATXMP Website: https://www.atxmp.com/Sponsors:Come and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.com/Come and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/Bumperactive: https://www.bumperactive.com/Titan Audio Productions: https://titanaudioproductions.com/

Ep 99Spin Kicks for the Crucifix with GratitudeTx

Originating from a Bill Lumberg meme (if you don't get the reference, you're missing out), I found GratitudeTx in the comment section. After giving their music a listen on a run, I had to connect with them. They are a hardcore / metalcore faith based band formed in Corpus Christi, Tx. They originated from a ministry called Thy Kingdom Come. They began ripping sets in July 2019 and we haven’t stopped since! They fill a space for fans who listen to No Zodiac, Hatebreed, Kublai Khan TX, Gideon, The Ghost Inside, Being as an Ocean, Take it back, and Norma Jean. In 2022, they ventured across Texas and as far off as Chicago. They have released two EPs and aim to release a third in late 2023. I sat down with Adam Matthews (bass/vocals) and Noah Lozano (vocals) and had a blast. We start off by Adam educating me about a movie called "The Green Room" which is about a punk rock band that becomes trapped in a secluded venue after finding a scene of violence. From there we talk about GratitudeTx's music, divorce, life in the church, chip to bag ratio and upcoming tours. Check the links below for more info.I also broke the news that we will be attempting to host the very first "Texas VMA's" for metal/rock/punk/alternative music videos. It's going to be an uphill battle but we think we are on to something.Episode Info:GartitudeTx Merch: https://gratitudetx.bigcartel.com GartitudeTx IG: https://www.instagram.com/gratitudetxchristcore/ GratitudeTx TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@gratitudetxchristcoreIntro track: "Common Flow" by ArborennaFeatured tracks: "Believer" by GratitudeTx of their Ep "Deathless Voices" ATXMP Website: https://www.atxmp.com/Sponsors:Come and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.com/Come and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/Bumperactive: https://www.bumperactive.com/Titan Audio Productions: https://titanaudioproductions.com/

Ep 98Interview with Patrick Duvall of Of The Sun

E

Dialing it in all the way from Germany, I get to chat with an old friend of mine Patrick Duvall, that is the mastermind behind his project "Of The Sun". Originally formed in South Carolina in 2010 time frame, after not much success with the project there, he picked up and moved to Austin, TX and as he said "shit hit the fan many times" with the project which leads us to this conversation we had in Jan 2023 and what's going on with him and "Of The Sun" today. In 2018, Patrick met his wife who is from Germany after she came to Austin on vacation. Since "Of The Sun" wasn't really on the right path, he left it all behind and moved with her to Germany to build their future home (he's quite the handyman) and also to rebuild his project. Now with new music ready to go and a single already released, Patrick has more in store for your listening pleasure. So join the mailing list and stay up to date with "Of The Sun" on his social medias so won't miss a release. We talk about his time in Germany and adapting to life over there, the new music that's in store along with the differences in quality of life in America vs Germany. Congrats to Patrick and his wife welcoming their new born into this chaotic world and I wish them nothing bust the best. Here is a quote from Patrick:"We face uncertainty, danger, loss, and death in a time when borders seal us in a mirage of security. We are locked to devices which constantly imprint on our minds the very fabric of fact and thought created by a faceless legion of programmers laboring for their own interests."Episode Info:Of The Sun Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/ofthesunbandOf The Sun IG - https://www.instagram.com/ofthesunofficial/Intro track: "Common Flow" by ArborennaFeatured tracks: "Pattern Rebirth" off upcoming album "Pattern Rebirth" by Of The SunATXMP Website: https://www.atxmp.com/Sponsors:Come and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.com/Come and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/Bumperactive: https://www.bumperactive.com/

Ep 97End of Year Wrap with the Family (well, almost all of them)

E

Par for the course, I finally found the SD card that held our end of year wrap for 2022. We didn't dig into "best album" or "our favorite song" of '22. We spent the bulk of the time just going over what we all accomplished last year and what we have in the oven for this year. Unfortunately, Jared "The Young One" and newly minted "Baby Daddy" Jeremy couldn't join us but they were with us in spirit.I (Ryan), Kittie, Taylor and eventually Josh, got together on a video chat late Dec '22 and chatted about whatever came to mind. Here are some highlights.-Tips and tricks on how to conduct a podcast-Taylor working more at CATIL and got a new sound board-Kittie got on stage and screamed along to Pantera while on some vodka drink and moshed for the first time ever at an Undeath concert-Taylor joined new bands and had to get a new car (RIP red Mazda)-Ryan thinks he knows how to run lights and also got a metal whisk (yes, a freaking whisk)-Josh saved the podcast website It was a fun 2022 and we look forward to bringing cool content in 2023Episode info:Intro song: "Common Flow" by ArborennaChacos Footwear: https://www.chacos.com/US/en/homeSponsors:Come and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.com/Come and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/Titan Audio Productions: https://titanaudioproductions.com/Bumperactive: https://www.bumperactive.com/

The Xebellian Triangle is a symphonic death metal band from Houston, TX melding many influences of technical and melodic death metal, accompanied by full orchestral and electronic arrangements. Technical but melodic riffs, blast beats, extreme vocals, strong and full string arrangements, apocalyptic choirs, blaring brass, booming percussion, and splashes of synths. Stoneside is an independent music project based out of rural Texas, focused on bringing into this world the stories of those who have passed from it. The music is as haunting, emotional, raw and beautiful as the stories that it gives voice to; combining elements of a range of genres including alternative rock, prog-metal, ambient and electronic, the genres and song structures are fluid and ever-changing; they are merely a tool of the messenger.Episode infoStoneside Website: https://www.stonesidemusic.com/GoFundMe: https://www.gofundme.com/f/third-record-funding-and-guest-appearance?utm_source=widget&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheetIntro track: "Common Flow" by ArborennaFeatured tracks: "Terlingua", "Hell" and "Pale Dawn" off Stoneside album's "The Water" and "The Desert"ATXMP Website: https://www.atxmp.com/SponsorsCome and Take It Productions: https://www.comeandtakeitproductions.com/Come and Take It Live: https://www.comeandtakeitlive.com/Bumperactive: https://www.bumperactive.com/

I kept getting this band showing up in my shuffle and found out they were a Texas band so I went to the socials to connect with them. If you want some good, heavy ass music, then go no further. Calderas, a 4-piece metal outfit from Rosenberg, Tx has been on the map for a few years now and are on the come up in the Houston area.Since jamming at a young age of 15 and trying to figure out if forming a band was the right thing to do, Bryan (bass) finally came to realize that it all was working too well not to give it ago. So in 2017 Bryan, Chris (drums) and Ryan (guitar) got a vocalist and let it fly. After some line up changes and basic life obligations, Calderas has dropping some heavy tracks for your pleasure. We talked about everything Calderas, where is Rosenberg. TX and also ventured into the Anime world. He's all in on anime and the rest of the guys will hate that section of the interview (haha).Featured song: "End of Humanity" by CalderasCalderas Music VideoATXMP YoutubeCome and Take It ProductionsCome and Take It LiveTitan Audio Productions

Welcome back to the third installment of Come and Cast It, live interviews from Come and Take It Live in Austin, Texas. I finally got to get a few minutes with the dudes from Colorblind, Travis Moseley (vocals) and Nicholas Ryan Asper (Bass) during one of their shows in June 2022 at the end of the night. This is a down and dirty interview, kind of off the cuff and I profess my love for Colorblind a bit too much (seriously, I edited a lot out...haha). As of this recording, "Love is Red" had just released but since they have dropped "Ghosts". Ep 78One on One with Jordan Greene of Mobday

E

Mobday is a hard rock/metal band from Binghamton, NY, founded in December 2005 by guitarist Jordan Greene. They called it quits in 2016. After the hiatus and a few shows to get their live chops back together, Mobday moved forward with vocalist Joe Cafferty and began developing their self-titled album that is set for release in September 2022 (Today, actually). The new album will bring a much heavier sound than previous releases and was completely self-produced by the band while being mixed & mastered by bassist Josh Thornton. The Mobday (2022) album will also feature the singles "Change" (2020), "Clarity" (2021) & "Need" (2021).In this episode, I dive into "what is Mobday", its origins and who Jordan is a person and his love for horror films. But the highlight is the release of their self-titled album dropping along with this episode. Wandering into 7-string territory (yummy), they take the bands sound into a new direction that they will be touring on soon.Go Dolphins!Intro song: "Common Flow" by AborennaFeatured song: "Need" by MobdayMobday WebsiteDerek Lindow ArtsCome and Take It ProductionsCome and Take It LiveTitan Audio ProductionsATXMP Youtube

Ep 73What are you doing tonight with The Unlimited Stars

From when she was a a little girl singing on her grandpas balcony in Milwaukee to here in Austin, TX in her adult form, Bre MacKenzie brings "The Unlimited Stars" to join the the always growing roster of rock bands to the community. Bre (vocals/guitar) and Wayne Duncan (drums) join me for a conversation to introduce themselves a bit. From their website bio: "The Unlimited Stars was founded during Austin's infamous snowstorm of February 2021. One morning, during the blistering cold, the lead songwriter, rhythm guitar player and vocalist, Bre MacKenzie was awoken by an undeniable flame of desire to drive a creative endeavor to the ends of the universe."From a not-so-craigslist, last minute scramble story to find a drummer after a band member called in to hosting a somewhat "beta test" approach to performance arts at the Carousel Lounge, this conversation is full of neat details and cool info nuggets. https://theunlimitedstars.com/http://www.driskillfilms.com/https://www.meanwhilebeer.com/https://www.instagram.com/theunlimitedstars/http://arroyoaudio.com/https://www.evilsnailstudios.com/http://www.carousellounge.net/Intro song: "Common Flow" by Arborrena Featured song: "Behind the Sun" by The Unlimited Stars

E

I sit down with the RIVALS crew to check in and see what's been going on since the release of their latest single "Dark Matter" and Kalie drops some breaking news heard here first! Paired with an irresistible series of layered guitar melodies and shining vocals, RIVALS has transformed with a renewed energy, and we look forward to hearing what they have to offer next."From their first album "Haunted/Hunted" to "Sad Looks Pretty on Me" to their newest single "Dark Matter", RIVALS does not disappoint. This is one of the few bands that I have found in a long time that you can go from their very first song to the latest release and not have to press skip. Ep 69Getting to know Psycho Pact

E

Psycho Pact is a Groove Metal Power trio formed in Valencia, Venezuela back in 2011 by Nelson Guevara (BOX), Luis Binimelis (WAJI) and Carlos Munoz (CHALDO). Wanting to escape Venezuela due to the political climate in the early to mid 2010's, Box moved to Houston, TX while Waji went to Chile but still kept their dream alive to get Phsyco Pact back on stage and Chaldo landed in Spain. After some time, Box convinced Waji to join him in Texas. With the desire to get Psycho Pact back on stage, Waji was on the search to find a drummer. Waji found Gustavo Arias (GUS) one night in a bar and knew he was the missing piece of the puzzle. They both get to explain how it happened...haha.With heavily charged lyrics, cultural instruments and elements, Psycho Pact has something different to offer metal fans. They are in the studio coming out with new music and have some shows booked to introduce a new flavor of Latin American Heavy Metal to the mix. The guys want to give a special shout out to Jordan and Eva Flores (Revalution World) for all of their help. Ep 66Heading to LA with Donella Drive

E

Combining elements of alternative metal, post hardcore, and progressive rock, San Antonio outliers Donella Drive cannot be categorized by a singular label. Forming over a decade ago as a 5-piece, weaving their way through the struggles as most bands do, the now 3-piece are heading out to the Viper Room in Los Angeles, CA to compete for a chance to head across the pond to play Wacken Open Air.Having won their regional battle in San Antonio, they headed to Austin, TX for the state final and out the gate as the first act, they set the bar for the rest of the night. The elements of sound that came through the speakers gave the judges something to think about as the night went on. Ryan and Aidan (lead vocals/guitar) get into where Donella Drive started, how they got to where they are at and what the plans are for the future to include new music dropping in the summer 2022. Chuck Loesch has been part of the metal scene in Austin since the early 90s, started NO CONTROL Radio on a sister radio station in 2005. He has since given a voice and a home to metal within the community and is partly the reason or why we began this podcast in 2014. His Twitter handle is @BeardedApe, he's been smooth cheeked for a while but he's still sexy so don't worry. Ryan and Chuck just shoot the shit and play catch up. Chuck tells stories about 70 Tons of Metal cruises, his recent video shoot for a music video with "In The Trench" and he also gives a peek behind the curtain of No Control Radio. Ep 61Kick It With Kittie - The Mystical Hot Chocolate Endeavors

E

The Mystical Hot Chocolate Endeavors started off as a passion project by Hate Storm Annihilation founder Craig Schmuhl, who had been interested in pursuing musical endeavors outside the sonic boundaries of the Death Metal genre for quite some time. With the intention of delivering a more diverse musical experience, he began writing in the summer of 2015. No real purpose or goals, just writing with the only mission statement being that it needed to be music made without limitation; genera, song length, or “standard song form” in anyway. In other words, true progressive music.Since the summer of 2019, The Mystical Hot Chocolate Endeavors have been hitting the road to deliver a unique live musical experience that offers incredible dynamic range to a wide array of sonic territories. Everything from 70’s Progressive Rock, 90’s Alternative Rock/Shoegaze, 80’s New Wave, 2000’s Post-Rock, and even moments of Modern “Extreme Metal”. The lyrical themes are primarily focused around reflecting different aspects of human life be they Social, Environmental, Political, Spiritual, and in some cases much more personal. But what about the name? It would be fair to assume The Mystical Hot Chocolate Endeavors name is based off of some chocolatey LSD trip that sends the listener spiraling off into the outer reaches of space, searching for extraterrestrial beings and the true meaning of life (42). But jokes aside, this is very much the intention behind the band. We want to get people asking “What is a Mystical Hot Chocolate Endeavor? And what does a band with a name like that even sound like?”https://www.atxmetalpodcast.com/https://themysticalhotchocolateendeavorsepk.com/Intro song "Common Flow" provided by ArborennaFeatured song "The Great Menial Divide" by The Mystical Hot Chocolate Endeavors
