After retiring as a teacher of 33 years, and then serving as an education advocate, she took to penning three children’s books and seven collections of stirring poetry. Now, at age 97, she has released her first book of short stories, Prose Pizza.“I try to shed light on the hidden, amazing layers that exist under ordinary people’s public lives,” says Schumacher. “These slices of life vary in tone and style, but come together as a coherent, nourishing whole.”Prose Pizza is a collection of nine short stories, exploring themes like hidden desires, identity, and social expectations through ordinary lives, with a style described as charming and insightful. The book uses the metaphor of pizza to represent the many "slices" or perspectives on life, marriage, and individual behavior, offering readers a variety of short, thoughtful pieces. The Red Weather Podcast From Actor Rider Strong Murder Mystery Love Affairs And More
iHeartPodcasts today announced it is partnering with actor, filmmaker and podcaster Rider Strong (Boy Meets World, Cabin Fever) to launch his new audio series, "The Red Weather." This innovative 8-episode autofiction podcast, inspired by Strong's initial work on a documentary about communes in and around his hometown of Sebastopol, California, masterfully blends a fictional true-crime mystery with a profoundly personal real-life narrative. The series will premiere with its first two episodes on January 28, with episodes launching twice weekly thereafter."'The Red Weather' started with me grabbing a microphone and asking old friends about kids we knew who grew up in so-called 'cults,'" said Rider Strong. "As the memories piled up, I wanted to find the best way to draw listeners into that unique time and place. I'm excited to team up with iHeart to bring this deeply personal project to audiences everywhere."The fictional investigative podcast will interrogate true-crime conventions, unreliable narration and the ethics of storytelling - all driven by a 1995 cold case. Strong, playing himself, will delve into the disappearance of his best friend's sister, Anna Trainor, from a commune in 1995. The central crime is fictitious, yet the recorded interviews with real family and friends, along with the exploration of Rider's own past, make for a deeply authentic audio experience and personal journey. Featuring documentary-style recordings with actors on location, "The Red Weather" will create a unique blend of reality and scripted drama, exploring themes of '90s nostalgia, the pitfalls of alternative parenting and misogyny."The concept behind 'The Red Weather' is truly unique, blurring the lines between what is real and what is masterful storytelling in a way that draws the listener in, providing them a glimpse into what life was like during Rider's formative years," said Will Pearson, President of iHeartPodcasts. "Part fiction, part true crime and part autobiographical, this podcast will captivate audiences."The cast of "The Red Weather" includes Strong's parents, his son, his brother Shiloh, as well as actor and director Jon Huertas (This is Us), Rachel Marsh (The Morning Show) and Heidi Sulzman (Hell or High Water)). Additionally, Kyle Morton, lead singer and creative visionary behind indie-rock band Typhoon composed all original music for the series."The Red Weather" is distributed by iHeartPodcasts and will be available on the iHeartRadio app and everywhere podcasts are heard. Kiss The Machine The New Album From Puddle Of Mudd Wes Scantlin Breaks It Down
“Free” takes on a deeply personal meaning for frontman Wes Scantlin. The song reflects his own struggles that he has contended with over the years. Essentially, “Free” is about severing ties with bad influences, whether it’s people or vices, and surrounding yourself with the good. Scantlin says, “Everybody goes through life with ups and downs, and you can find your way. Along the way, people come around and they’re not your people. Accept the people who are trying to help you.” When times get especially tough, Scantlin finds help in a higher power. Scantlin says, “Look up to God, ask Him for help, and He’ll take you somewhere better. I hope people hear their own story in ‘Free’ and take whatever they need from the song. Keep your head up, improve, and remain awesome. God will guide you in the right direction. Get free. Stay free. Stay kind and be nice to each other.” With a career spanning over two decades, Puddle of Mudd has cemented themselves as a prominent force in the world of rock music. Family Secrets Do You Truly Know The Truth Curse Of The Blumenthals From Phyllis Karas
The Blumenthals are one of millions of Eastern European Jewish families who immigrated to the United States at the end of the nineteenth century. Settling in Providence, Rhode Island, they grow and prosper. During Prohibition, the Blumenthals become bootleggers—starting their fraught history with alcohol and crime. Once Prohibition is repealed, Barney Blumenthal opens a liquor store in Boston. Life is good—until fate intervenes. In May 1935, a drunk driver took the lives of six Blumenthals, including three children. Horrific photos run in newspapers across the country. Six months later, Ronnie Blumenthal is born: a phoenix rising from the ashes of devastation, a golden child upon whose blond head the family’s hopes and dreams are placed. He grows into a handsome and spoiled teenager, driving a fast convertible and surrounded by beautiful girls. The Blumenthal legacy is resurrected—until one July night in 1954, when he is arrested for murder. The victim is his mother’s seamstress, who was allegedly having an affair with his father. Newspaper and TV coverage is relentless. Ronnie pleads guilty, yet dark questions remain unanswered. Upon Ronnie’s release from prison, his drunken behavior causes the family—who faithfully visited him behind bars—to finally wash their hands of him. At the end of his life, not one family member will contribute to his funeral. The once golden child is buried in a pauper’s grave, etching the Blumenthal curse in stone.A decade later, New York Times bestselling author Phyllis Karas, a Blumenthal cousin, uses her well-honed instincts as a journalist to peel back layers of long-hidden family secrets. Karas sensitively chronicles the generational trauma affecting Phillip and Rose Blumenthal’s six children and their children—the fifteen Blumenthal cousins—who were left to build their lives in the fallout. The Blumenthals’ story proves that, by learning from the past with care and love, curses can be broken.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

How To Disagree Better From Julia Minson Receptiveness Is Essential Plus More
Disagreements happen everywhere to everyone – in workplaces, in families, and with our countrymates. And these days, the levels of anger and vitriol seem to be skyrocketing. As a result, many of us are either in a constant state of conflict or assiduously avoiding voicing any opinion that might spark debate. Yet, according to Julia Minson, PhD, a psychologist and professor at the Harvard Kennedy School, disagreeing is both inevitable and essential for everything from navigating decisions at home to running innovative and agile companies to governing democratic societies. Through the years, social scientists have often offered well-meaning but unproven (and not very useful) advice on handling conflict, according to Minson. In HOW TO DISAGREE BETTER (Avery; March 24, 2026), she offers evidence-based insights, based on decades of scientific research to help readers understand why we disagree, and how we can do it constructively and without rancor.Minson defines constructive disagreement as any disagreement that increases the parties' willingness to talk again. Her bedrock concept is "receptiveness to opposing views" - a trait she has studied for years, and that can be measured using a simple survey. However, Minson argues that even more important than cultivating a mental habit of receptiveness, is working on showing the other party that we are receptive to their point of view. Unfortunately, most of us are not naturally gifted at this task (indeed, evidence shows we are quite bad at it).Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

Merry Go Round Broke Down From David Woo World Reality From His Shoes
David is not only a novelist. He is a former global macro strategist, described by Bloomberg as “one of the most outspoken voices on Wall Street,” with a Ph.D. in economics from Columbia and a career that spanned the IMF, London, and New York. What makes this book unusual and interesting for this moment in time is that it translates decades of economic transformation into human stories we can all recognize. The novel tells the story of globalization through nine interlinked lives that converge during a hostage crisis at the Bull & Bear Bar in New York on the eve of the 2008 financial crisis. From a Chinese factory director to a Wall Street bond salesman, a Japanese media celebrity to a Mexican undocumented worker, the novel shows how decisions made in one part of the world ripple outward in ways no one fully controls. As the former Bank of America Head of Global Interest Rates, Foreign Exchange, Emerging Markets Fixed Income Strategy & Economics Research (2010 – 2020), David’s perspective is unique - he helped interpret and forecast the forces that reshaped trade, finance, geopolitics, and capital flows. Now, through fiction, he opens a window into what those forces did to ordinary lives, how they formed the world we inhabit today, and why so many people feel both enriched and dislocated by it.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.

The Way To World Peace From Kenneth Callison Reconnection And Compassion
Written during a period of escalating global conflict, environmental strain, and existential uncertainty, the book approaches peace as a spiritual and evolutionary imperative. Callison argues that humanity’s reliance on violence arises from fear, separation, and a misunderstanding of our shared nature—and that peace emerges naturally when individuals reconnect with compassion, responsibility, and inner awareness.Blending spiritual reflection with decades of research, Callison explores how fear becomes embedded in collective belief systems and how societies externalize that fear through conflict, dominance, and control. He challenges the assumption that violence is an inevitable part of the human condition, proposing instead that it is a temporary phase in humanity’s spiritual development—one that can be transcended through conscious choice.Across 27 reflective chapters, The Way to World Peace invites readers to examine the inner origins of war: the ego, the illusion of separation, and the belief in scarcity and threat. Drawing on universal spiritual principles shared across religions and traditions - interconnection, compassion, forgiveness, and responsibility - the book frames peace not as idealism, but as alignment with humanity’s deeper nature.Although Callison is widely known as the founder of Allied Beauty Experts, his life’s work has long centered on humanity’s spiritual future. In the 1980s and 1990s, he conducted a nationally published survey on nuclear war cited by Carl Sagan, deepening his conviction that humanity’s greatest threat is not external forces, but unresolved fear within the collective soul. The book also serves as the philosophical foundation for A Time for Humanity™, a nonprofit organization devoted to advancing global peace and demilitarization through education, inner awareness, and collective action.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-like-it-s-live--4113802/support.
