When describing life, the Bible doesn’t use the modern term “species.” Instead it describes God creating “kinds” that reproduce within their kind. This gives us a hint at what a kind is—a group of animals that can reproduce with one another. Creation biologists have determined that “kind” is at about the same level as “family” in our modern taxonomy.

God built a huge amount of variety into each kinds’ DNA so that they can diversify as they fill the earth. This leads to new species forming but only within a kind.

What we observe is exactly what the Bible says—kinds only reproduce within their kinds.
