James Barnett, a 57-year-old from West Baltimore, stands trial for second-degree murder in a fire that killed three firefighters. Hes charged with three counts of murder, arson, reckless endangerment, and involuntary manslaughter. The fire occurred in a vacant rowhouse, trapping and killing Lieutenant Kelsey Sadler, Lieutenant Paul Butrim, and EMT firefighter Kenny Lacayo. Barnett, who owned up to living there before, denies starting the fire. The case is set for fifteen trial days, with surveillance footage showing him inside the building for eight minutes. The firefighters families lawsuit against Baltimore was dismissed, and theyre trying to refile. Barnett is held without bail and has a motions hearing on September 30th.
