As Joann Fabrics Closes, LullCo Design Studio Opens to Fill the Gap
ANN ARBOR, MI – April 8, 2025 – With Joann Fabrics shutting down its local stores, the Ann Arbor area is losing a major resource for fabric, upholstery, and craft supplies. But LullCo Design Studio hopes to fill that void.
More than just a supply shop, LullCo is a full-scale creative textiles studio where people can hire artists and skilled trades people, or, use professional tools, buy materials, rent workspace, and learn hands-on skills from experts in furniture restoration, upholstery, and textile arts.
To celebrate, we’re hosting a Grand Opening Event on April 8th—Rex Manning Day! Because, honestly, what better day to 'Damn the man' and save the trades!?
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Free Studio Floor Access & Tool Use – Work on your own project, tuft a carpet, test our furniture restoration and textiles class options, or just come play with the tools and make new friends! (2 hour max. Registration required.)
Guided Tours All Day – Get the full rundown, including our speakeasy fabric rooms. You'll get to see the design studio, body shop, kids play room and more!
Meet the Makers – Say hi to the current students, artists, designers, and fabricators who are making this place their home.
Shop & Explore – Browse fabric, tools, supplies, and unique custom furniture and home decor finds.
Collaborator Suites Available! – Need a long-term workspace? LullCo Design Studio offers private office and storage spaces exclusively for monthly studio pass holders. These suites include full access to the studio and tools, WiFi, utilities, and a shared meeting room. We're looking to build a One-Stop-Shop design firm and want to build a strong community of like-minded professionals to collaborate on client projects and grow together.
