Bethel Police Officer Ceaira Preuett, a recent graduate from the University of Alaska Fairbanks academy, shot a man who charged at her with a knife during a roadside stop. The man had previously been blocking traffic and was found to be in possession of a knife, despite repeated orders to drop it. Preuett is currently on administrative leave pending a psychological evaluation. The man was medevacd to an Anchorage hospital with serious but non-life-threatening wounds, and no charges have been filed yet. The Alaska Bureau of Investigations Major Crimes Unit and the Office of Special Prosecutions are conducting independent reviews of the incident.
