H.L. Mencken was a skeptic and satirist that rhetorically skewered many opponents on the topics of politics and religion. However, he wrote very highly of J. Gresham Machen, a Presbyterian peer that many might have assumed he would oppose on every level. Let's get into these writings and see if there is anything we can learn about these significant men, and admiring those with differing, yet consistent beliefs.
