Commencer par la noirceur, cultiver le minimalisme, suggérer l’hantologie, transcender les formations classiques. Depuis le début des années 1990, Kranky s’est imposé comme un label emblématique de l’éclectisme musical en faisant renaître le shoegaze en le confrontant au drone, en colorant le rock de nuances expérimentales, tout en maintenant intact un esprit impalpable, entre grisaille et rêverie.
Si une sélection de 15 titres - réalisée par Grégoire et Manon - aura du mal à rendre proprement hommage au label, on souhaite qu’elle puisse donner un aperçu des entrelacements entre les multiples veines et autant de paradoxes : ambient murmuré, drone enflammé, post-rock épuré.
