Perez explains how her husband fled Mexico in 2010 to escape cartel violence, lived and worked legally in the U.S., paid taxes, and repeatedly sought a legal path to stay—only to be arrested on his way to work and placed in federal prison awaiting deportation. Despite no criminal record, the family now faces separation, forcing a painful choice to leave the country to stay together.
McGraw is also joined by Merrill Matthews of Our Republican Legacy, who breaks down how failures in the immigration system create cases like this and what it says about the need for serious reform that balances enforcement with compassion.
