S7 Ep 16Carrlyn Bathe - Kings vs Wild Reaction 01/28/21
The LA Kings closed out their first road trip of the season with a loss in the standings and multiple losses on the ice. Forward Andreas Athanasiou was ruled ineligible to play before the game and defensemen Matt Roy and Sean Walker were lost to injury during the game. Roy was driven head first into the boards by Kevin Fiala, while Sean Walker was struck in the face by a rising slap shot fired by Matt Dumba. Despite the injuries, the team seemed to rally late in the game before ultimately losing 5-3. Following the game, Head Coach Todd McLellan and Drew Doughty were made available to the media and offered up rare insight and sincerity when talking about the difficult circumstances the game presented. Kurtis MacDermid scored in the first period and Carl Grundstrom scored in the third to lead the Kings to a 2-1 road win against the Minnesota WIld. Cal Petersen made 32 saves to earn his first victory of the season as the Kings improved to a record of 3-2-2 on the season. Following the game, Jack Jablonski joined host Jesse Cohen to react to the hard fought win and to name both a play of the game and a player of the game. Jablonski chose the Kings PK following the coaches challenge as the play of the game and Carl Grundstrom as the player of the game. Meanwhile, Cohen selected MacDermid's surprising first period goal as the play of the game and singled out Cal Petersen's performance in net for player of the game. In the past two drafts, the Kings have selected four players from Sweden (Bjornfot, Fagemo, Lee, Sodergran) and two players from Finland (Kupari, Nousiainen).
