Yoshinobu Yamamoto saw Blake Snell's dominant performance in NLCS Game 1 and decided he wanted to get in on the action, hurling a gem of his own to lead the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 5-1 victory and a 2-0 series lead. Yamamoto threw a complete game, completely shutting down the Brewers' offense after allowing a home run on the first pitch he threw. Meanwhile, the L.A. offense showed up with big homers from Teoscar Hernandez and Max Muncy and key RBI hits from Andy Pages, Shohei Ohtani, and Tommy Edman. Blake Snell had the Postseason performance of a lifetime on Monday, dominating the Brewers for eight innings and leading the Los Angeles Dodgers to victory in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series. Snell allowed just one baserunner — a hit to Caleb Durbin, whom he promptly picked off — in facing the minimum over eight scoreless innings. Roki Sasaki came in for the ninth to preserve LA's 2-0 lead, but he didn't have it tonight. Sasaki got two outs and allowed one run, leaving with runners on the corners and Blake Treinen entering to bail him out. Treinen was up to the task, walking William Contreras to load the bases before striking out Brice Turang to end the game. Oh yeah, and there was the weirdest "grounded into a double play" you'll ever see, simply because when you think of a GIDP, you think of a ground ball, because it's right there in the name. But Max Muncy hit a 404-foot fly ball that never touched the ground, yet somehow it turned into an 8-6-2-5 GIDP to kill a rally. The MLB Postseason started this past Tuesday when the Dodgers played the Reds. But today, it felt like the PLAYOFFS started. In Game 1 of the National League Division Series, Shohei Ohtani pitched six innings for the win, Roki Sasaki capped a good team bullpen performance to earn the save, and Kiké Hernandez and Teoscar Hernandez both had HUGE hits to give the Los Angeles Dodgers all the runs they needed. Shohei Ohtani and Teoscar Hernandez each homered twice, Tommy Edman added a homer of his own, and Blake Snell was dominant for seven innings as the Dodgers beat the Reds, 10-5, in Game 1 of the National League Wild Card Series. How did the Reds score five runs if Snell was so dominant, you ask? Well, you see, the Los Angeles bullpen was involved, so of course it wasn't as easy as we would have liked. Alex Vesia struggled, Edgardo Henriquez was terrible, and the Reds put up a fight in the eighth inning. Luckily, it was too little, too late, and the Dodgers complete the win. The LA offense showed up again, putting up four runs against a tough Jesus Luzardo and tacking on another insurance run against the Philly bullpen, and the Dodgers salvage a game in the series with the Phillies.
