Some stars get their start from a very young age. Many are born into the show biz world, others have parents that saw that special “something” in their kids from an early age and got them in front of the right people. Some people seem to blossom later in life, and small part after small part, eventually turns into stardom. Then, there are stories like the subject of today’s show subject, Chris Pratt. We’ll dive into how he got his big break in Hollywood and try to figure out why he’s been one of our most requested shows. Has all this fame and fortune changed who he is as a person? Many of the trendsetters from a couple decades ago have started to see the sun set on their careers. Whether it’s just a lack of work for an aging star or doing something dumb and getting cancelled. The pastors of mega churches are a different breed of people. We’ve covered a number of them here on AHC Podcast, and the scandals discussed, and corresponding scores seem to shed some of the light on the true work of these “men of the pulpit”. To be called the King or Queen of something, you’ve got to have the public buy-in for it to stick. We’ve had many musicians depart this world far too soon, leaving us wondering what could have been. Today’s show subject, Tupac Shakur, may just be near the top of that list. We’re all familiar with the names and faces of the anchors on our local news stations. They provide us with the top stories in the area, the weather, sports, and all the while, intentionally staying (mostly) politically neutral. Then, there are the cable news stations. We’re all familiar with their anchor’s names and faces as well, but their agendas are clearly catered to one side of the aisle or the other. But who is it running the show and determining the message behind the scenes? How did all this get started anyway? Rupert Murdoch is one of the pioneers in the cable and TV industry, and the empire he has been able to amass over the years is astounding. Have you ever been around someone that just makes you nervous the whole time? The transformation of individual people is an amazing thing. As we all grow older and wiser, the lessons we learn and apply in our everyday lives make things easier and less stressful. Well, this goes for most of us at least. You still see the 50-year old guy in the mall, rocking an Affliction shirt, spiked hair, jeans with a design on the back pocket, and a pair of Oakley's on the forehead. The subject of today’s show, Jordan Peterson, didn’t take the Benjamin Button approach to dressing himself, but did take a highly respected career in academia and transform it to be an online influence - who’s started to go off the rails in recent years. What made the former Harvard professor make the change? What message does he give that draws such a large audience? Why so much hate for one group of people? We’ve all heard the phrase “jack of all trades, master of none”. Unfortunately, most of us seem to fall into this category and is the reason WE aren’t the subject of podcasts people listen to. But we all may know someone that does seem to be quite good at several things. It’s quite annoying actually, but the respect is there. The subject of today’s show definitely seems to fit into that latter category. Joe Rogan has been the face of multiple successful enterprises, stretching over multiple decades now. There aren’t many things more American than baseball, apple pie, and John Wayne. It’s a story told countless times – star athlete has a great career, wins over the hearts of countless fans with incredible performances, and when it’s time to hang it up, they ride off into the sunset. It’s 2022, and as a society we are in full swing to “cancel” many historical figures. There is a lot of merit to most, some could be viewed as questionable, but it hasn’t been a good run lately for some of the folks we read about in our history books. Now the subject or today’s show, Pablo Escobar, whoop, yep, there it is – cocaine, is definitely another one of those names. Pablo came from nothing in the streets of Medellin, to become the head of one of the largest drug cartels in the world. In his prime, he was in the top 10 list of Forbes most wealthy people in the world and responsible for about 80% of the cocaine in the United States. At one point or another, everyone has an encounter with a “cool guy”. You know who I’m talking about – over the top laughter, outlandish clothing, the center of attention always… yeah, that guy. Fred Durst was the epitome of the cool guy in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. He and his band, Limp Bizkit, were the hottest thing in music for about a 4-year stretch, until the sheen seemed to wear off. Professional fighters have a propensity to live very interesting lives outside the ring. Think about it, they are performing one of the most primal, basic, human acts, but yet, because they the best in the world at getting the best of someone in a physical altercation, they are rewarded like kings as young adults. Fast cars, multiple houses, paying all the bills for an entourage of people, and gold chains that would make Mr. T jealous, it’s easy to see how some of these young fighters go broke. But, it’s much harder to understand how someone with a legendary status in boxing, today’s show subject, Mike Tyson, could wind up as another story of an athlete gone broke. I guess dreams can come true. If you ask any 20-year-old dude what their dream job would be, odds are, porn star would be near the top. The adult film industry has graced us with some stars that have reached pop culture status, but probably none more famous than today’s show subject, Ron Jeremy. “The Hedgehog” has starred in over 2000 adult films and even made his way into movies and TV shows. The one-name celebrity club is a difficult thing to achieve. Voltaire, Pele, Bono, Snoopy… the level of global fame you have to accomplish to get to the one-name club is limited to very few. We have all wished that our favorite characters in movies or shows was a real person. I mean, who wouldn’t want to sit down to a plate of pasta and a glass of cabernet with Tony Soprano? He’s one of the most recognized people in the world and perhaps for all the wrong reasons. Vladimir Putin rose through the ranks of the KGB during the Soviet era, and then quickly shot up the ladder of the Russian government to become its President. He’s currently invading neighboring country, Ukraine, and the world seems to have had about enough of his crap. Putin has never been cast as an angel, but with his record of humanitarian issues, corruption, and power-hungry decisions, he seems to be fitting the bill quite nicely as a devil. To be the greatest of all time at anything requires hard work, dedication, and usually a little bit of luck. But keep in mind, not every GOAT is sports related. Daytime TV – it’s a subject we’ve broached a couple times on AHC Podcast, but this episode is about one of the heavy hitters of the afternoon antics. For years, Hollywood has glamorized some not-so-glamorous people. If the tale is “based on a true story” you can guarantee the real subject probably didn’t look like Johnny Depp or Tom Cruise. The same goes for one infamous duo, the first true ride or die couple, Bonnie and Clyde. Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow terrorized police and the public for a couple years during a crime spree that would go on to become one of pop culture’s biggest references. But, between some self-mutilation, prison rape, car wrecks, and gonorrhea, the duo’s journey wasn’t as Hollywood as it’s been made out to be. But what drove them to a life of crime? Internet celebrities come and go, but there are a few that have hung on longer than their 15 minutes of fame usually allow.
