Show Notes

Identifying the biggest pain points in your team can make all the difference in your organization. Janelle Klein, author of "Idea Flow," discusses how to measure friction to connect managers and engineers using what she calls "the ultimate metric": the frequency and duration of WTFs.

Klein speaks about the importance of understanding and predictability to create alignment, taking into consideration the human factors in software development. "The hard part really isn't solving the problems," she reminds, "it's identifying the right problems to solve." This enables managers and engineers to translate the friction experienced during development into explicit risk models for more effective decision-making.
