In order to archive double-sided floppies, or deal with Apple Disk ][ drives, we need to create 'fake' index pulses, that's something that lets the software know when the disk surface has rotated 1 time. We have a guide page showing how we support 'hacked' disks using an external optical sensor (https://learn.adafruit.com/flippy-floppy-drive-modification/) but it requires some fiddly wiring. Ideally we could make a little breakout board for the reflective sensor that has a cable for quick installation. We'll want it to be 'right angle', ideally SMT solderable, and it should be a plain logic or analog type output since I2C isn't going to be fast enough to catch transitions.
