Show Notes

We discuss the anti-war/pro-war Mel Gibson film Hacksaw Ridge that follows the story of PFC Desmond Doss, a conscientious objector to aggressive violence as he enlists in the military to compromise his principles (though the story seems to deny this). Here is the flawed, and incorrect Google description: The true story of Pfc. Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who won the Congressional Medal of Honor despite refusing to bear arms during WWII on religious grounds. Doss was drafted and ostracized by fellow soldiers for his pacifist stance but went on to earn respect and adoration for his bravery, selflessness and compassion after he risked his life -- without firing a shot -- to save 75 men in the Battle of Okinawa. In the show we bring up a number of things that don't fit in with the official narrative we are told in school, media and political recollection. You can continue believe what you have been told, or you can realize that being told something might have more to do with the tellers than what is told. For show notes and more, please visit: www.actualanarchy.com/24 Presented by Read Rothbard: Robert and I analyze popular movies from a Rothbardian/AnarchoCapitalist perspective. We use movies as a starting point for people who may not be familiar with this way of thinking. Discussion of the plot and decisions that characters make in relation to morality and violations of the non-aggression principle are our bread and butter. We also will highlight and discuss any themes or lessons from Austrian Economics that we can glean from the film. The point is to show what anarchy actually is with instances that are presented in film. We publish new episodes on Sunday just in time for your Monday commute; and occasionally will do specials surrounding holidays or events (elections/olympics).
