The guys chat about the imperfect science that goes into Goodyear making the tires. Atlanta: Here's Why I Laid Back
With only 13 of 15 teams signing NASCAR's charter agreement, one notable holdout was 23XI. Co-host Jared Allen asks Denny Hamlin to weigh in on the situation. On the track, it wasn’t a great day for Denny. Starting in 38th, the hope was for attrition but it didn’t come. It looked like Denny’s plan to avoid the big one was going to work and then a caution for debris on the track ruined that plan. Kyle Petty was critical of the plan to try and get 20 points and Denny responded with his reasoning behind it.Denny and Jared discuss why there was little chaos on Sunday and if it being the first round of the Playoffs had anything to do with it. While Denny is firmly on the bubble, he is confident they can perform the next two races and advance. Meanwhile, Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe had their own Playoff struggles. Larson stays 15 points ahead of the cutline, but Briscoe may be in a must-win situation. Denny only got 13 points on Sunday, but it could have been one less if not for BJ McLeod repaying Denny. There are two more races left in the first round and Denny talks about how many points he thinks it will take to advance. One driver not worried anymore is Joey Logano, who won on Sunday and punched his ticket to the next round.NASCAR is headed to Watkins Glen next weekend and 23XI has a third car racing with the return of Juan Pablo Montoya. Denny talks about what to expect from Montoya and why it might be harder for him than he thinks. Plus, why qualifying will be so important and what to expect with the tires. Darlington: Briscoe With The Walk-Off, Playoffs Are About To Be Wild
The NASCAR regular season came to an end on Sunday in Darlington with a surprise winner when Chase Briscoe punched his ticket to the Playoffs.Denny Hamlin and co-host Jared Allen discuss what this win means for Stewart-Haas Racing, who is closing their doors for good when the season ends. Three of SHR's charters have been sold and whoever bought the charter of the winning car on Sunday will get a boost in money. The move that propelled Briscoe to victory came after a restart as he passed three cars to get in first place. Denny explains how that happened. Denny also talks about what went wrong for him on the restarts at the end of the race. Did Chris Buescher right rear hook Todd Gilliland?Sunday's race was bittersweet for Denny and 23XI. Bubba Wallace was firmly on the bubble and things didn't go his way and he will miss the Playoffs. On the flipside, Tyler Reddick was able to win the driver's regular season championship by one point. The guys also talked about the art of short-pitting to gain an advantage. And, at what point did tire wear stop and the tires were even?Denny had a fast car but the only problem was he was fast on the long run. With so many races ending with multiple cautions, producer Travis asked Denny if his set-up should always favor short runs. The Playoffs begin next weekend in Atlanta and expect chaos. Plus, 23XI's Curtis Polk made a statement about the NASCAR Charter negotiations. Denny opens up a little bit about what's going on.For more Actions Detrimental content head over to our YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@ActionsDetrimentalFanDuel Disclaimer: 21+ and present in North Carolina. Daytona: This Was A S***** Week
Denny Hamlin is back after a rough couple of days on and off the track. On Thursday, the No. 11 team was given an L2 penalty for an engine-rule violation. Denny explains what happened at TRD that caused NASCAR to punish him. He also talks about the impact this will have during the Playoffs. On Saturday, things got worse when he was involved in a massive wreck that ended his race. Denny watched the rest of the race from his bus, where he saw Harrison Burton get the win and punch his Playoff ticket. Denny and Jared also discuss if Christopher Bell should have jumped to the outside lane and moved in front of Burton before Burton made his last push. After a crazy wreck last week, NASCAR made a slight change to the cars to try and prevent them from going airborne. On Saturday, we saw Michael McDowell come off the ground without flipping over. But then, Josh Berry flipped onto his roof before hitting the wall. While both wrecks looked bad, Denny still isn't worried about cars coming off the ground. The guys also talk about the massive implications that come from Burton winning on Saturday. For Wood Brothers Racing, it was a big financial win. On the flipside, drivers on the bubble lost one more available playoff spot with only one race in the regular season left. Burton was 34th in points coming into Saturday and with him winning, the Playoff format is once again coming into question. One of those drivers who might miss the Playoffs now is 23XI's Bubba Wallace. Denny chats about his driver's situation. Off the track, Trackhouse made big news announcing that they acquired a third charter for SVG. The guys chat about SVG's future and Zane Smith losing his ride for next year. For more Actions Detrimental content, head to our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@ActionsDetrimentalFanDuel disclaimer: 1+ and present in North Carolina. Michigan: "I Got Greedy"
Denny Hamlin and Jared Allen are back after a bittersweet race in Michigan. Before getting into the race, Denny and Jared talk about NASCAR taking away Austin Dillon's playoff berth and how the appeal process works. Denny also explains what happened last year during his appeal hearing for his incident with Ross Chastain.Tyler Reddick was victorious on Monday, getting his second win of the season, but a late-race caution almost ruined it. The guys debate whether NASCAR's caution for Martin Truex Jr. was the right call. Another decision discussed was the start time of the race. If there is bad weather expected like NASCAR got on Sunday, should the start time be moved up? Or, should the start time be earlier for every race?Denny had a fast car when the race started on Sunday, but things got bad when he spun out trying to pass Bubba Wallace. He explains why the mistake happened and what was going on in his mind. Denny and Jared also answer a question circulating on social media: is Kyle Larson a better driver than Max Verstappen? One factor teams didn't expect to play such a big role in the race was the wind. The driver who got the worst of this was Corey LaJoie, who found himself airborne. And while it looked bad, Denny believes flipping is a better outcome than hitting the wall head on. Tyler Reddick ended up in Victory Lane and has been on a tear lately. Denny isn't shocked, and it's this kind of driving that made him go sign Reddick in the first place. Denny then gets into the struggle of trying to win while, at the same time, helping 23XI drivers and his fellow teammates at JGR, who will then try to beat him on Sundays. Finally, there are two races left in the regular season and the guys chat about what to expect next weekend in Daytona. For more content, check out our YouTube page: https://www.youtube.com/@ActionsDetrimental Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Richmond: Integrity of the Sport On the Line
Denny Hamlin is joined by co-host Jared Allen after an interesting end to the race in Richmond on Sunday night.Denny explains why he wasn’t mad about restarting third on the final restart and he was expecting a wreck. Once Joey Logano was wrecked by Austin Dillon, Denny thought the checkered flag was his. Dillon ended up right-hooking Denny and while some claimed Denny went up the track, he says the SMT data shows Dillon hooked him.Denny is now calling on NASCAR to make the tough call and enforce the rules.Dillon’s spotter was animated at the end and Denny wasn’t a fan of how he handled himself. The guys also discuss what the penalty should be for Dillon if given one considering a points penalty or money really doesn’t change much. If no penalty is handed down, does this mean it’s open season for drivers to wreck people going forward? And what stops anyone from wrecking someone to win the championship in Phoenix? The format of "win and you’re in the Playoffs" didn’t help prevent this incident either. And, should one win punch a driver’s ticket to playoffs or does the format need changed? The integrity of the sport is on the line depending on what NASCAR decides to do, especially since Dillon wrecked not one but two drivers to win the race.Logano made it known on pit road he wasn’t happy with Dillon, but Denny doesn’t see a fine coming to him for what he did.Plus, NASCAR had option tires for the first time and Denny thinks they need to use those tires full-time on short tracks. In other NASCAR news, 23XI has a third driver coming up at Wakins Glen and Corey LaJoie is out a Spire after this year. But NASCAR informed everyone the day before on what the rule was (23:46). Brad Keselowski running out of gas was exactly what Kyle Larson needed (27:30). On the flipside, it ruined Ryan Blaney’s day. How should NASCAR handle this situation going forward? And, did Larson jump the start? Denny pulls up the SMT data to find out.Did NASCAR get it wrong on the timing on the caution for Ryan Preece (37:00)?What exactly was on the notepad that Chase Elliott handed to Denny (49:20)?Plus, what did teams learn about the tires for Bristol? And, can Busch still turn things around this season (20:00)? Bubba Wallace is firmly on the Playoff bubble, but made up some ground on Ross Chastain (27:10). But why didn't NBC move the race up (20:50)?Josh Berry's caution on lap 51 proved to be a game-changer (25:00). Denny explains what went wrong for Tyler Reddick (26:50) and Bubba Wallace's frustration with Alex Bowman, that culminated in a run-in on the cooldown lap (34:20).Denny dives into why it's good for the sport to race in Chicago (39:00) before discussing if being friends and co-owners with Michael Jordan has influenced his competitiveness (43:50). Will we see more racing against the clock in the future (52:24)?
