This week Katrina hosts Dr. William Levine on the show! The core driver of periodontal disease is inflammation not infection. The initial infection will generate an inflammatory response in the gums. If it persists, it will become dysregulated and no longer protect the gums but will actually cause gum and bone destruction. If we control the inflammation, the disease will not progress. We have been told most of our hygiene lives that palatal expansion is just for kids... Well on the episode today we have Renata Nehme, RDH who is very much an adult who decided to fix her malocclusion through the use of a palatal expander.
