Your holiness or your happiness? Which is more important to you?
To God, our eternal holiness is far more significant than our momentary happiness.
Of course Jesus wants us to be happy. That's the essence of the Beatitudes where the word "blessed" can also be translated as "happy" (Matthew 5:1-11). In these verses, Jesus gives us a roadmap for happiness.
But God is much more concerned with our eternal personhood than our temporary state of happiness. God's desire is the purity of our character. Why? Because we are commanded to be holy as God is holy (1 Peter 1:16).
Happiness comes and goes. Being holy lasts forever.
Work today on being a holy person in God's sight. Seeking his will above all else. Making obedience to him a master passion of your life. Allowing the Holy Spirit to conform you to the image of Jesus (Romans 8:29).
Because God is much more concerned with our eternal holiness than our present happiness.
